Every month I will publish a monthly report like this to show the progress of this blog as well as the results of other activities I have carried out in order to hit my 2015 Goal.
So what went on in February?
February is a festive month where we celebrate Valentine’s day and Chinese New Year here in Singapore. I celebrated Valentine’s Day with my wife, presenting her with a simple bouquet of flowers after she returned from her business trip abroad.
After she came back, we busied ourselves preparing for the Chinese New Year festivities. We celebrated the whole week and I had a great time catching up with my relatives.
Personal Development – 2015
As part of my 2015 goal, I made a commitment to meet up and network with other entrepreneurs, blog readers and anyone who might need my help. For the month of February 2015 I am proud to say I’ve connected with quite a number of people.
I had my first 30 mins call after launching the ‘I want to connect with you campaign‘, it was a different experience because I get to actually speak to my blog readers or forum goers instead of just typing now. A total of 5 people from Singapore did the call with me and I’m glad that they found the call very helpful. Here are some of their kind testimonials:
“I am glad to have some of my toughest questions about SEO answered by Joseph. He has provided me many useful insights and resources which i can apply on my marketing efforts during a short meeting on Skype.” – Yonfai
“Joseph was very generous with his knowledge for SEO and Hosting and shared everything that he knows. I have better understanding in SEO after the consultation with him and I will apply the tips that he have shared in my blog!” – Wilson
“Joseph was extremely helpful and open towards me during our short skype session. He is knowledgable and shared many golden nuggets of information which I could take away. – Clarence
I had also managed to connect with a few overseas people from the Elite team. I also managed to have a call with Daniel Wong; he found me in one of the forums and connected with me after reading my monthly income report.
I feel that I do have valuable information to share, especially with those who have just started online businesses. I am willing to share everything I know to help you get started. Just visit the link, find a day and pick a time that suit you and let’s talk through it!
Time Tracking Experiment
I started to track my time at the beginning of this year, to see where my time is being spent on and also to improve my productivity.
For the month of February I only logged 117 hrs of productivity time. However this is the total amount of time I spent on my day job as well as on my business – I feel the time should be calculated separately, so I need to think of a way to do so. Based on last month’s data and this month’s, my productivity went up by 6%. The good thing is, I now spend less time on social networking on my laptop and desktop – it’s now down by 2%.
As you can see, my communication and scheduling are up by 6%, due to the I want to connect with you campaign.
This month, the traffic dropped by 20% as I took some time off for Chinese New Year celebration. I also did not post much for the month of Feb. I only managed to publish 2 blog posts :-
Despite not doing much, the number of new sessions increased by 4%, mean more new readers are visiting my blog. (Hi!)
The number one referral traffic is still coming from Matthew Woodward blog, due to the 2 guest posts that were published on his blog.
Authority Site : Food Niche Progress
The site traffic was down by 66%; my team and I had a tough time maintaining the traffic and that is one of the downsides of authority sites. As this site reacts to local holiday seasons, due to CNY, most of the readers are away from their desks, or overseas – and that is one cause of the traffic dropping. Another reason for the traffic drop is due to site slowness and hacking.
There was a lot of hacking and malware issues for the month of Feb – I had a tough time cleaning it up. One thing about the authority site is that as it grows, it becomes harder to clean up when you have some issues. Due to the hacking, I did a restoration a few times (luckily I backed up the site) and it is causing a lot of database error as a result. When a user accesses the site, the avg load time is about 17sec.
As a result, this may be one of the issues causing the high bounce rate. Whenever the user visits the site, the user needs to wait for 17secs for the site to load. The user might just close the tab after waiting between 7 to 10 secs. This is one of the most important items on my TO DO LIST for the authority site – speed optimization – which I will need to work on for the month of March.

For the social media web properties, it is still continuing to grow in terms of subscribers.
eCommerce Authority Site
This is an experimental site run by my team partner and a local company. We get a 15% commission for every sale made online. The local company will handle all the customer support and delivery.
Traffic increased by 137% due to the following reasons :-
- We launched the blog section.
- A major factor was Valentine’s day – classic gift-giving season; with people searching for gifts.
- We spent $500 on facebook ads during Valentine’s week.
- We did a mini blogger outreach by sending the products to the bloggers.
As as result, for the first time we managed to break into 5-figures of revenue.
As a result we earned a total of $1700 commission during the Valentine’s day period. My team and I feel that there’s still potential to grow this site to provide passive income. We will be publishing more content on the blog and also do a blogger outreach.
