Monthly Income, Growth & Traffic Report – August 2014

Monthly Income Report

This is the 4th income report on my blog. You can check out last month’s 3rd income report here. This monthly report will show the progress of this blog as well as the results of other activities that I have carried out for the previous months.

Aside from helping me track my progress, I also hope to teach you things from my experience that you may find useful for your blog site and business.

Activities Accomplished in August

August was a busy time for me and my wife, it was our daughter’s second birthday! We decided to hold two celebrations – one in school and one with family members, which we had big plans for. However, due to someone passing away in the the family, we decided to cancel the family celebration – and she was understandably quite disappointed when we told her.

But in the end, we decided to hold a mini party for her together with her cousins anyway – and my wife also made her a cake!

All thanks to my wife who put in so much effort in making all the cakes and goodie bags!

For this month’s income report, I’ve decided to include the progress of my offline business, but I won’t be reporting the company income. In case you guys don’t know, I have been running my online marketing consultancy, E-Alchemists for the past 3 years. At E-Alchemists, my Team Alchemist designs and puts together an optimum blend of web solutions our clients.

For the past 8 months, I have been very focused on growing my authority site, and thus the business was a bit neglected, however it still continued to run well with a lot of referrer leads. Some of recurring income also came from SEO services and Web Hosting, which is great for cash flow. I will be coming up with a new experiment to transform E-Alchemists from a service-provider web design company to a proper Online Marketing Consultancy, with a firmer branding and positioning.

Why am I doing this? I want to focus on high end clients instead of only helping friends and the startup market. In the past, this business took up a lot of my time by serving clients, yet my returns did not justify all the time that I had spent. Most of the time, after consulting us for online marketing, these clients usually still ended up spending only on offline marketing. So hopefully, by branding and positioning my consultancy better, we will be able to appeal to a higher end crowd who are willing to invest in online marketing, which I am confident we will be able to serve well.

Authority Site :

For the month of August I managed to publish 3 blog posts on this blog:

I also managed to do 2 guest posts:

August 1 august 2

The traffic dropped by 14% this August, and I am still not earning anything from this blog. However, I managed to build up my audience and currently I have about 15 email subscribers now! I’d also received feedback from my readers, saying that the monthly income report was inspiring and also motivated them to start doing something to generate passive income.

I want to thank everyone for reading my blog! It inspires me to write more as well.

Authority Site :

I started a niche site while reading up on Niche Site duel 2.0 last year. This site eventually became an authority site as it grew so big that it can no longer be called a niche site.

In August it finally broke the 50k visitors per month curse, with one blog post going viral on Facebook, driving 17k visitors from just one post. This contributed to the overall monthly traffic to 29% and a huge increase of pageviews to 33%. I will be writing a more detailed post about this viral phenomenon.

In August this authority site earned a total of $278.05, an increase of 12%. I had also started to place ads from Gourmet Ads is a global food advertising network, focusing on food marketing and branding campaigns. Their digital advertising programs reach millions of household grocery buyers online.

However, we didn’t win the Best New Blog for Singapore Blog Award. The Winner was Travelled Paths. However, there are valuable lessons learned from this competition that added value to this blog.

Authority Site :

We didn’t do anything for this site for the month of August. However, the site continued to run by itself and earned $2 from adsense. The traffic also increased by 15% and most of the traffic came from Search Engines.

ECommerce Site:  Flower Niche (JV site)

This is an experimental site run by my team partner and a local company. We get a 15% commission for every sale made online.

Not much promotion was done, however there was a sale of $216 this month. The site continues to run by itself without me doing anything.

Monthly Income Report & Expenses

Total August income : $313.31

Web Hosting Expenses : $66 ( I am using VPS hosting )
MaxCDN : $27 (the service that I use to boost my website speed by 80%)

Net profit : $220.31

This month saw an increase of 20% of net profit, which is a great month for me!
