What’s the first thing you need to do after creating a new website or blog for your business? Yes, an SEO campaign – but even before that, you have to index your website. During my website review sohelpful calls, I’ve noticed that when people don’t index their websites, they don’t get any traffic from search engines.
To check if your website has been indexed, use the command “site: yourdomainname.com”
If there is a search result example “about 165 result (0.24 seconds)”, that means that your website has been indexed.
Another command is info:yourdomainname.com
This is an example of a website that has not been indexed by Google:
As you can see it will show no result which mean this website is not indexed by Google yet.
Why is Indexing Your Website So Important?
Google has this thing called the Googlebot, which travels around the web collecting information about documents on the web to add to their Google index.
Indexing is a process where after the Googlebot has collected all the information of a particular website, it will then decide whether this piece information should be on their Google index by using their Algorithm.
If your website is not indexed by Google yet, here are 10 ways to speed up the process:
Google Search Console
Register a Google search console account and add a new site to your account. Verify your website url using their method.
Fetch as Google
Here is another trick that I often use: the ‘Fetch as Google’ function in your google search console account. Input your website URL, then click ‘fetch and render’. If the status is complete, it means Googlebots are able to crawl your website with no issue.
Create Sitemap and Submit
Always create a sitemap for your website.
A site map (or sitemap) is a list of pages of a web site accessible to crawlers or users. It can be either a document in any form used as a planning tool for Web design, or a Web page that lists the pages on a Web site, typically organized in hierarchical fashion. – From Wikipedia
Post Your Website Url on Google+
If you have a Google+ account you can simply share the website url on your profile. If you don’t have an account, you can register an account here and share your website URL:
Install Google Analytics
Installing Google Analytics will also help your website to get indexed faster because of the code inserted into your new website.
Submit URL to Search Engines
When you have a new website you can submit your website URL to the following search engines. This is to ask the search engines’ bots to come and visit your website and index it on their database.
Google – Submit your website here
Bing – Submit your website here
Yahoo – Submit your website here
Yandex – Submit your website here
Update Your WordPress Ping Service
Another great way to index your website faster is to update your wordpress ping service. Here is why:
“Update Services are tools you can use to let other people know you’ve updated your blog. WordPress automatically notifies popular Update Services that you’ve updated your blog by sending a XML-RPC ping each time you create or update a post. In turn, Update Services process the ping and updates their proprietary indices with your update. Now people browsing sites like Technorati or Sphere can find your most recent posts! From WordPress.org”
Make Sure Your Robots.txt File is marked as ‘Allow’
Website owners use the /robots.txt file to give instructions about their site to web robots like Googlebot.
The “User-agent: *” means this section applies to all robots. The “Disallow: /” tells the robot that it should not visit any pages on the site.
Use Social Bookmarking
A social bookmarking service is a centralized online service which enables users to add, annotate, edit, and share bookmarks of web documents. You can use social bookmarking services like Delicious to get your new website or new page to index faster by tapping on the Delicious high traffic and domain authority.
Use IMT submitter
IMT Website Submitter submits your website/blog to 1,800+ different places. This tool creates pages about your website/blog on everyone of these websites, resulting in about 1,800+ different pages in some cases with backlinks pointing back to your website.
These sites are well established websites regularly crawled by Google and other SE, so your pages and backlinks/URLs on those websites will be found and your website/blog will get backlinks/mentions and will be visited and indexed more frequently by Googlebot.
These are some of the ways to make your new website to index faster. Comment below if you have any other way to index website or pages faster.
